Some of us are born to tell stories, be they biographical, historical, tall tales, short tales, multilingual forays or a custom blend of any of the above. Friday and Saturday (Oct. 16-17), SOMOS’ 10th annual Taos Storytelling Festival celebrates this ancient and evolving art form with a workshop, storyswap and concerts that honor the rich cultural diversity of Northern New Mexico.

“The voice is the oldest instrument known to humankind,” says Brenda Hollingsworth-Marley, who has been storytelling professionally since 1991.

“When telling stories, we also use our hands, our feet, our bodies — it’s all interconnected.

    Storytelling Concerts will take place at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Taos Community Auditorium, 145 Paseo del Pueblo Norte. Admission is $15.

    Saturday’s events also include Children’s Stories at 9:30 a.m., also at the TCA. Admission to this is $8 for adults and free of charge for those under 18.
